Moolanda Care and Learning Centre Inc. has been part of the Kingsley community for almost four decades. First opening its doors in 1987, the Centre was purpose-built with support from the Local, State and Commonwealth Governments to provide high-quality, affordable education and care for local families. From the beginning, Moolanda has been community-based and not-for-profit, operated by a Management Committee made up of parents and community members who continue to guide its direction today.
Nestled closely to Lake Goollelal in Yellagonga Regional Park, the Centre sits on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja, a place of deep cultural and spiritual significance. The lakes system has long been a gathering place for families, a connection we honour in our daily practice of play, learning and care.
The name “Moolanda” was chosen at the time of opening due to its location on Moolanda Boulevard. It is an Aboriginal word from the Barossa Valley in South Australia, meaning “on the far side.” While not a Whadjuk word, the spirit of the name reflects the Centre’s position “on the far side” of Lake Goollelal and our commitment to journeying alongside children as they cross into new stages of growth and discovery.
Over the years, Moolanda has expanded and adapted to meet the changing needs of families, always staying true to its not-for-profit ethos: providing a safe, inclusive, educational, and nurturing environment where children can thrive.
Today, Moolanda is proud to remain one of the few surviving community-based services in Western Australia, sustained by the dedication of families, educators, and volunteers who believe in the value of children’s early years.
